Delicious and Nutritious Navratri Recipes

Navratri, an important Hindu festival, is celebrated with great pomp throughout the country twice a year. Navratri is dedicated to worshipping Goddess Durga. Goddess Durga is said to have nine incarnations, each representing a unique power. Hence, Navratri is a nine days long fasting festival. The idols of goddess Durga are adorned with kumkum, bangles, flowers, and jeweled attire. Markets are filled with various festive foods. Even restaurants offer a special Navratri special food menu. The aroma of Navratri recipes fills the air.

There are many restrictions on food items during this fasting period. Grains, table salt, seed-based oils, onion, and garlic are not allowed. Buckwheat flour commonly known as Vrat ka atta, Singhara atta, Samak rice, vegetables, fruits, milk products, and makhana is allowed.

Vrat recipes are light on the stomach and easy to digest.

Rock salt, or sendha namak, is used instead of regular salt to make healthy and tasty food because it is pure and unprocessed. People choose to eat sweet Indian recipes without salt for fast  or use rock salt in place of table salt in their dishes.
